Mobile Equipment

In my mobile vehicle I have a Kenwood TM-D700 with an MFJ dual-band mag mount antenna. I typically work 2 meter repeaters but I also have the capability to work 40cm as well. I also have a laptop and wireless internet that is especially utilized when I am storm spotting, chasing, and reporting back to our local skywarn operations. I have a few other antennas as well used for better weather radio reception and CB use.

Base Equipment

In my "shack" I have a lightly used Icom-725 which has been an excellent rig especially in the past year or two that I have been on HF. So far I have made some excellent contacts with it during good conditions and sometimes even during poor conditions. My maximum output is 100 watts with this rig but as most elmers will tell you, 100 watts is all you need. I have an MFJ 10-40 meter dipole strung up as an inverted "V" in my back yard at about 30 feet at the tallest point. I also have what you could call a "cheap" tuner which is the MFJ travel tuner which works extremely well and has been great at tuning as I work different bands with the same antenna. I also have an MFJ-2220 20 meter mini dipole that I can use for portable operations. Its built with two 20 meter MFJ ham sticks set up horizontally. I also have a few projects that I have worked on such as a quarter wave ground plane for 2 meter communications from the shack and also a "coat-hanger" yagi antenna.
